Transferring Ownership

Hand full account ownership to another team member — including the two-step verification required to confirm the transfer.

If you need to hand over control of your church's PreachKit account to someone else — for example, when a staff member takes over the communications role — you can transfer ownership from the Team settings page. The transfer is protected by a two-step confirmation to prevent accidental or unauthorized changes.

Before You Start

  • Only the current Owner can initiate a transfer.
  • The person you are transferring to must already be a member of your team. If they are not, invite them first.
  • After the transfer, you become an Admin. You will no longer have access to billing or the ability to delete the church.

Step-by-Step

  1. Open Team Settings

    Go to Settings > Team. Find the member you want to make the new Owner in the Members table and open their three-dot action menu. Click Transfer ownership.

  2. Verify your identity

    The Transfer Ownership dialog opens. The first step asks you to re-enter your password as a security check. Click Verify identity — a password prompt will appear. Complete it, and the button changes to Verified.

  3. Type your church name to confirm

    After verifying your identity, a text field appears asking you to type your church's name exactly as it appears in your account. This second step makes the action intentional and hard to do by mistake.

    Once the name matches exactly, the Transfer ownership button becomes active. Click it to complete the transfer.

  4. Transfer complete

    The page reloads. The selected member is now listed as Owner, and your role has changed to Admin. You will see that billing settings and certain team actions are no longer available to you.

Important

There is no undo button. Once ownership is transferred, only the new Owner can transfer it back. Make sure you have chosen the right person before confirming.

Common Questions

What if the person I want to transfer to is not on the team yet? Invite them first using the Inviting Members flow. Once they have accepted and appear in the Members table, you can transfer ownership to them.

Can I transfer ownership to a Member-role user? Yes. The transfer will upgrade them directly to Owner regardless of their current role.

Will billing continue uninterrupted after the transfer? Yes. Billing is tied to the church account, not to an individual. The new Owner will simply have access to billing settings and the existing subscription continues without interruption.

What happens to my access after I transfer? You remain on the team as an Admin. You keep the ability to manage content and team members (within Admin permissions), but lose access to billing and the church deletion option.
